Even in properly designed plate-and-column structures, a progressive catastrophe may occur, i.e. the destruction of the entire structure as a result of damage to one of its load-bearing elements. It may be the result of exceptional loads, such as, for example, a gas explosion, hitting structural elements of buildings during road or air accidents, or even terrorist bombings. The increase in public awareness of safety made it necessary to take into account exceptional loads at the design stage of the structure, so that the effects of disasters caused by their operation were limited to a small part of the structure, excluding its complete destruction.
At the request of CPJS, a study of the reinforced concrete slab and column structure, reinforced with EPSTAL steel, was carried out in 2020 in the event of a progressive catastrophe. More information on this subject in the "RESEARCH" tab.
