The bulletin discusses the security issues of plate-and-column systems against damage caused by unintentional interactions. The authors, based on the current standard requirements, the results of experimental research and analysis of failures and disasters that took place in history, proposed design solutions for the reinforcement of reinforced concrete structures.
With the introduction to the Eurocode design practice, the methodology of reinforcing ceilings, in particular ceilings in plate-and-column structures, has changed. So far, the most important and decisive was to calculate the quantity and determine the distribution of reinforcement due to limit states, while all other issues were treated as additional information. Currently, when designing reinforcement in plate-and-column systems, the first priority is to take into account the risks of exceptional burdens (the threat of a progressive disaster) and fires, as they predict the further sequence of design.
